07.04.2008 Doomed Planet Since 1997 -BY REX LAMERAY ![]() On March 3, 1997, inspired by my life as an unemployed, disgruntled former worker for a misguided Internet start-up, I decided to start my own misguided Internet start-up, which I called doomedplanet.com. Eventually I decided to make it a gathering place where the entire growing Internet community could come to buy books about drugs and whatnot. ![]() That idea failed, of course, but not enough to die a dignified death, and doomedplanet.com soon became the website for my full-length feature film called Doomed Planet, which has been regaling a select group of Armageddon-comedy fans since 2000. You know, the best idea I ever had was coming up with the name Doomed Planet. And ever since, I've noticed that other artists have thought to emblazon their enterprises
with the name Doomed Planet as a way of capturing the magic. Some other filmmakers made an unrelated, and less magical, movie called "Doomed Planet ."
A buttrock
record label out of Eugene, Oregon uses that name, and I wish them the best. L. Ron Hubbard anticipated my use of the name by calling one of his books
The Doomed
Planet," which led to a popular cult. And of course there's that sketch comedy troupe called "The Doomed Planet" at
thedoomedplanet.com which nobody's ever heard of.
